Englishforums updated to V4

A little less than two weeks ago, we updated our Spanish community site ForoDeEspanol.com to version 4. This provided us with the opportunity to run the new version live and have a better opportunity to find any major bugs that we might have overlooked. After some fixes and improvements to the performance of V4, we were confident to release this onto our biggest community site, Englishforums.com. Thanks to the observant and helpful members we've found a few more issues that need to be fixed, but overall we are extremely pleased with this release. We will continue to make improvements and optimizations as we want as many people all over the world to experience our communities in a helpful, easy, fast, fun and especially bug free way.

V4 includes quite a few new features. Members can now add eachother as friends which allows them to track their recent activity more easily. The Home page includes new areas which show you what has happened recently, the latest topics, the most popular topics, your friends activity, latest uploaded files and more.

We hope you enjoy V4 as much as we do, and don't forget to leave a wall message here and there on your friend's profiles! :)

A new community

We've been a little quiet on posting news. That's because a lot of background work is being done involving measures to speed up the performance of our sites. There are already great improvements but we're not quite there yet.

In the mean time we have just set up a new community site dedicated to the animal world. On MySmelly.com we will have discussion forums, galleries, blogs and a care guide with the aim to provide animal lovers with the most relevant information on how to treat pets and other animals in the right way. We currently have a designer working on a new and fresh design as well as adding content to the forums. More news coming soon :)

Design update

Beginning of this week we uploaded some more changes to the design on all of our sites. This change brings us another step closer of making the sites easier to read and overall made them "cleaner".
We're very happy to see a steady traffic increase especially on forodeespanol and it gives us even more motivation to add more and more things to make learning Spanish easier. We are working on a lot of stuff, and I really do mean a lot, and soon we will reveal some more of our coming projects :)

Spanish Quotes

On Monday we added a new section to ForoDeEspanol.com, Spanish quotes. We have already added over 7000 quotes and will continuously add more. There is a seperate quotes section, found through the navigation bar, where you can search and browse the quotes by tag or author, and we have the forum section where our members can comment on the quotes.

Improved search

Yesterday we implemented an improved search system, Lucene.
It allows us to search in many different ways, but the most important ones for us are the term and field seraches.
Terms can be single (just one word like "English") or phrases (a group of words in qutoes "learn English"). The field search allows us to be more specific and lets us search by title and text. For example I want to only search a word or phrase that is in the title ONLY, I will write in the search box title:"English Language"
We can also search by tags, username and include the date and change how it is sorted.

The New Englishforums

The update of Englishforums.com, the most active language forums went very well on Saturday. During the changeover the site was running a little bit slower due to re-indexing of all the posts; and being so many, it almost took a day. Constructive comments are helping us optimize V3 even more and also find bugs we haven't discovered. So we are working hard daily to fix all the bugs that are known and being reported.
It is obviously taking some time to get used to the new design and functions but there is more of a community feeling now :)
Happy to report traffic increase since the update too, and we are eager to add more tools and applications as soon as we have the chance and the site is running bug free!

Next project update - Englishforums.com

Today we will be upgrading our main website, www.englishforums.com to V3.
We have had version 3 running on forodeespanol.com for a few weeks now and we are finally ready to move on to our other projects with it. Major bug issues have been fixed, things that were missing added, further optimization and implementation of tools such as a translator.
It's quite a big move as englishforums has over 61,000 members, but it's about time we provide our users an up to date platform to learn, improve and even teach English.
Fingers crossed :)

January 29th FDE update

Our latest update involved fixing known bugs on forodeespanol.com as well as changing the design of the forum groups to make it eaiser to distinguish between read and unread posts. We also added some more moderator features. There is still a lot left to do but we're getting very close to our final version :)

Latest news - FDE updated

We have updated one of our sites ForoDeEspanol.com from version 2 to 3 last week with a new design and new features!
Not only can members now upload videos to help other Spanish learners, but we now have a new post format called Question and Answer. The moderators can change the format of any post which allows the member to easily find the more important posts. The posts that are not marked as an answer seem more like comments and lets the good answers stand out.
We've also included a News section where we will keep the members informed on any updates.
Still to be implemented very soon = Spanish quotes!
We are currently working hard to fix current bugs and to optimize the site even more, so we can update our other projects to version 3 as soon as possible.
